Multimedia Intern

The Public Affairs Department is seeking a college intern in their Richmond, Va. location.  This internship is within the Corporate Communications unit, which is responsible for media relations, internal and external crisis communications and employee communications.  Corporate Communications also manages the Fifth District’s public website and provides consulting and editorial support to Bank executives and departments.  This internship is designed to give the intern an opportunity to assist multimedia staff in day to day operations and gain fundamental knowledge of the Bank’s intranet/internet.  The internship is structured to refine a diverse set of skills including analytical thinking, effective interviewing, strong communication (written and oral), team interaction, and business protocol.   

This is a part time position (no benefits) that will begin in during the spring semester and may end in early summer.  The work schedule, including office and/or event hours, for the position will average 12 - 20 hours per week; however, flexibility to alter work schedule as needed, is required.

Skills and Requirements:

Essential Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists web team in updating and maintaining content for intranet/internet.
  • Conducts proactive maintenance of internal/external web sites.
  • Assists in creation of multimedia packaging for the web (slideshows, videos, etc).
  • Learns and performs web best practices and how to effectively write for the web.
  • Adheres and implements the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s branding standards (for intranet/internet and any publications produced by the Bank).
  • Performs comparative analysis of web sites.
  • Assists usability specialist with user research for intranet/internet.  This includes and is not limited to: user research, task & analysis, surveys, interviews, focus groups, paper prototypes (high/low fidelity), and heuristic evaluations.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Must be a currently enrolled college student, preferably rising junior or senior status with a minimum 3.0 GPA with a preferred Computer Science major or Liberal Arts major with concentration in computers.
  • Primary requirement is candidate must be web savvy.
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Strong oral and written communications skills;
  • Effective interviewing skills;
  • Basic knowledge of and experience in use of research techniques;
  • Proficiency in searching and navigating Internet sites;
  • Ability to work well in a team setting;
  • Ability to work with a moderate degree of independence;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of a content management system(CMS) a plus.
